A burst water main in west Norfolk has left homes almost without water.

Water supplies are currently affected in parts of North Wootton, South Wootton and Castle Rising, near King’s Lynn.

A water main along Spring Lane cycleway in Gaywood is believed to have burst at around midday on Saturday (July 16).

Anglian Water’s website said: “We’re really sorry, but customers in King’s Lynn and surrounding areas may have very low water pressure or no water at all.

“We are working to repair a broken water main in your area so that we can restore your normal power as soon as possible, but this is proving to be a complex job that is taking longer than originally expected.”

Supply is now expected to be restored by 6 p.m.

But it comes amid today’s (July 17) heatwave, with an amber weather warning and temperatures set to reach sweltering highs of 30C plus.

King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council has announced it will be handing out bottles of water at North Wootton Village Hall.

A bottled water center will also be on site in South Wootton village from 1pm.

Norfolk County Councilor Rob Colwell for Gaywood South has also appealed for help from the community to bring bottles of water to the most vulnerable until supplies are restored.

“Of all the weekends to make this happen,” he said. “This is an unprecedented heat wave and it’s scary.

“But the most vulnerable people will be affected by this.

“If this is not finished by the morning it will be a crisis and I hope we get more support from Anglian Water and the local council.”

Lower Farm Nursing Home and Woodlands home in South Wootton are among those affected.

Mr Colwell added: “If anyone has spare bottles of water please help.”

In a tweet on Sunday, North West Norfolk MP James Wild revealed that around 650 properties were without water in the area.

He wrote: “I have spoken to West Norfolk BC Council Leader Stuart Dark and bottled water is available from South Wootton Village Hall from 1pm.

“Also contacted the CEO of @AnglianWater who advised that 650 properties are off after the main burst.

“They are working to fix it and I have emphasized the urgency and the impact on residents.”
