On Friday, West Virginia authorities announced the arrest of a man in attempt to kill to his sister after she woke up from a two-year coma.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced that Wanda Palmer’s brother, Daniel Palmer III, 55, has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding in connection with a 2020 attack on his sister that left her “hacked” and “abandoned yes dead’.
“I wouldn’t bet a cent on her life that morning, she was in such bad shape. Frankly, he was unconscious, walking around the sewers medically. Massive, massive amounts of trauma to the head, consistent with some type of machete or hatchet type injury,” Sheriff Ross Mellinger said after Palmer’s arrest Friday, according to WVAH Fox 11.
Neighbors found Wanda Palmer unconscious and slumped on a couch in her home on Flatwoods Road in Ravenswood, West Virginia, on June 10, 2020, according to court documents obtained by the store.
Her brother was already a point of interest, but authorities cannot file charges until they receive a statement from Wanda identifying her brother as the person who tried to kill her, Fox 11 reported.
“From an investigator’s point of view, that’s as rare as it gets. I think it’s a real testament to the perseverance and strength of the victim herself,” Mellinger said, according to Fox 11.
