What happened to the A63 in Hull today when a truck left a big hole after a crash

A section of the A63 in Hull was closed for more than six hours today (Sunday) after a truck overturned and smashed a brick wall.

The incident happened on the western lane near the Fruit Market. Emergency services diverted traffic while working to restore the truck and clean up the fuel spill.

Tonight, a large hole could be seen in the brick wall bordering the Fruit Market and a residential area where the truck turned sideways after the crash around 8:45 p.m.

Drivers were warned of delays in the area this morning, with traffic jams extending to Mount Pleasant in East Hull and the Freetown Way junction in the west. The removal of the injured truck began at 11 am when a towbar was seen lifting the vehicle.

However, the road was reopened until 15:00 due to a large-scale cleaning and safety action. One lane of the A63 remained closed tonight due to a safety barrier failure.

Tonight, the National Road Agency said the damage was safe, but warned drivers of a potential delay due to the ongoing closure of the lane. “The huge damage to the barrier has been secured and the overturned truck has been repaired,” the agency said.

“The contractors cleared the rubble and reopened the road. “Please allow extra time for your trip, as there will be residual delays.”

The truck, which had a German license plate and advertised a German brand of kitchens, could be seen jammed across the roadway and sidewalk. It is not clear immediately how the accident happened and whether the driver was injured.

Writing on social media after the crash this morning, Humberside police said: “Drivers in Hull, please note that the A63 road west is temporarily closed between the Victoria Dock roundabout and Castle Street junction after a traffic collision. The road is probably closed at least until the early afternoon. Thanks.”
