New Yorkers will head to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the primary for governor, vice governor and state assembly.
In the primary election for governor of the Democratic Party, Governor Katie Hochul will try to push back two candidates to win a full term – Attorney General Jumaane Williams and Republican Representative Tom Suozie (D-Nassau).
Across the aisle, Lee Lee Zeldin (D-Suffolk), former White House employee Andrew Giuliani, businessman Harry Wilson and former Westchester County CEO Rob Astorino will compete in what has come to be “free for all” GOP nomination competition.
Republicans hope to win their first statewide election in two decades, a year when historical trends and low polls for President Biden could reduce Democrats’ prospects of not voting.
Hochul has failed in recent months, including the April resignation of former Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin following his arrest and his accusation of alleged campaign finance fraud.
She is now running alongside her new number 2, Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, a former member of Congress who is also running for a full four-year term.

Down in the ballot, in the race for the state assembly, left-wing rebels are trying to oust several incumbent lawmakers, while the Progressives and Socialists are fighting the more moderate Democrats for control of Albany’s lower house.
Attorney General Leticia James and Attorney General Thomas DiNapoli are running without resistance in the Democratic primary and will automatically qualify for the general election as party nominations.
The primary election for the state senate and congress will be held on August 23, after the state’s highest court threw out cards previously approved by the Democrats.
Some of the ballots in the June primary elections were already released before Tuesday, and if early voting activity is an indication that polling sites may be quiet on Tuesday.

Only 87,000 Big Apple residents used early voting from June 18 to Sunday, according to the city’s election commission. This figure represents 2% of all eligible voters.
