Wibsey Park stabbing: teenager seriously injured

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said at around 3.40pm police received reports of a robbery in which a 16-year-old boy had been stabbed.

A spokesman said: “Officers attended and found a teenager with serious injuries.

“He was taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Police scenes were set up in Wibsey Park, where the attack is believed to have taken place, and in Wibsey Park Avenue, where the teenager was found.

The spokesman added: “Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Bradford CID on 101 or by using the live chat on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“The crime reference number is 13220362225.

“Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.”

Councilor Sabia Khan (Lab, Wibsey) told the Telegraph & Argus: “Our thoughts are with the victim and [we] I sincerely hope they are okay and not seriously injured.

“Police are working, following up on the incident and want to reassure the community that they are doing everything they can.”

She added: “I would say this is an isolated attack as we have reported incidents of anti-social behavior and vandalism which we are working in partnership with the police to deal with. We have not had such an incident.

“The police are doing their job. They track inquiries. They are investigating thoroughly to get to the bottom of this.

“Our thoughts are with the victim. We hope the guy is OK.”

People spoke of their fears of the attack. One resident said: “Bradford is getting worse.”

Another, who was just a few streets away, said: “Everybody flew past my house with their sirens on when we got home from school.”

One mother described how her children wanted to go to the park after school and that she was relieved to say no.

“The park entrance is boarded up, including the edge of the garage over the road,” said another.

“I do not know [what] everything the police did. There must have been 10 cars, dogs and an ambulance that then left.

Another said: “It doesn’t look good.”

One Wibsey local said: “Oh it’s not good. I saw them flying up the High Street and thought ‘something bad somewhere’.
