Will Quince resigns, saying he had ‘no choice’ after defending PM over Chris Pincher row

Nadhim Zahawi said that his reason for taking on the role of chancellor was not related to personal ambition.

Asked if he would run for Tory leader when there is a vacancy, he told Sky News: “There is no vacancy.”

Told that the odds are good for him at the moment, he said: “Firstly, I will work very hard to make sure this team continues to produce results. The Prime Minister is focused on delivery, delivery, delivery.’

Asked if his reason for taking the job was down to personal ambition, he said: “No, as I told you, sometimes leaving can give you a bit of a break, I dare say, but the idea that you have to do it for the country, I think, is the right thing to do.
