A building located on Mayfair Avenue has been declared a complete loss after a fire broke out on Saturday morning.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called to Block 100 on Mayfair Avenue at around 2:20 a.m. to report a fire in a two-story apartment in an empty building.
The city said the fire was heavily involved when teams arrived on the scene and there was heavy smoke.
Firefighters used stairs to attack the air, as the building was considered dangerous to enter.
The city said there had been numerous fires at the site and the building was at increased risk of collapsing.
The teams said the fire was contained at 3:43 a.m., but are expected to remain on the scene to deal with the hot spot.
The city expects Mayfair Avenue to be affected until the crews leave.
There are no data on victims and the reason is being clarified.
