Winnipeg Police: Three charged after assault on teenager

Winnipeg police said a teenager was kicked in the head and attacked by a group of people in a school field on Thursday night.

Police in Winnipeg said a passerby saw the attack at around 9pm on Thursday and called police in a school field on Ellen Street.

Police say the AIR1 helicopter quickly found a man on the ground kicked in the head by a group of people. The helicopter is coordinating with the police on the ground to find the victim, a teenager who has serious injuries in the upper body. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police found three 12-, 13- and 15-year-old girls on McDermott Avenue and Francis Street and detained them all. Police said a knife and drugs were also seized.

Police believe the suspect and the victim were known.

The 12- and 15-year-old girls were charged with aggravated assault and released on bail.

The 13-year-old girl is accused of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of cocaine and fentanyl. She is in custody.

None of the charges against the three girls have been proven in court.
