Diesel prices in Nova Scotia rose about 17 cents a liter on Saturday, bringing the price to a minimum of 253.4 cents in Zone 1, which includes the Halifax area.
The increase is the fourth consecutive day when the price of diesel is rising.
On Tuesday, the price of diesel was at least 201.7 cents in Zone 1. This means that the price has risen by 25.6% in four days.
For the transport industry, fuel and labor are their two biggest costs, said Jean-Marc Picard, executive director of the Association of Trucks in the Atlantic Provinces.
He said that while transport companies pass on fuel taxes to customers, the gap between buying diesel and getting paid for their work is difficult to manage.
“If you fill your truck four or five times a week, those increases can build up pretty quickly,” Picard said. “And when you talk about a company that has 500 trucks, that’s millions of dollars.”
No change in gas prices
The price of diesel is the cheapest in Zone 1 and can be about two cents per liter higher in other parts of the province.
The price of gas did not change overnight.
