A man was taken to hospital after being attacked while helping police keep a suspected driver intoxicated.
Police were called to East Street, Brighton, around 1 a.m. Saturday, June 25, to report a suspected drunk driver who fled the staff but was later arrested.
A 37-year-old man who was in the area at the time helped officers try to detain the driver.
He was attacked by another member of society, causing serious trauma.
He was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he remained.
Officers released photos of two men they wanted to talk to about the incident.
They introduced themselves to police at the scene, but then left the area while officers responded to the injured man.
One of the men wore a white T-shirt that looked torn, while the other wore a gray top with a hood and a black T-shirt.
The detained driver is accused of unrelated crimes.
Anyone who has witnessed the incident or who recognizes the two men has been asked to report it to Sussex police online or to call 101 and quote series 104 of 25/06.
