Woman crashes into traffic light pole accused of impaired driving

A 28-year-old woman is facing court after crashing into a traffic light pole in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Just before 4:00 a.m., police and St. John’s Regional Fire Service responded to an incident at the intersection of New Gower and Adelaide Street where a vehicle had driven across the sidewalk and knocked over a pole supporting the traffic lights. Newfoundland Power was called to cut power to the lights. No one was injured in the incident.

The driver was located at the scene and was sent to be examined by a dragger. The 28-year-old woman was three times over the legal limit and faces trespassing charges. She is due in court at a later date.
