Zach Wilson is questionable to return after suffering a knee injury in the Jets’ preseason opener

MOUSTACHES

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson left New York’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a knee injury. With more than four minutes to play in the first quarter, Wilson ran a first-and-10 from New York’s 40-yard line and went wide right. As he turned upfield, Wilson attempted a cut toward the middle of the field to shake off a would-be tackler and fell awkwardly.

He was initially helped by a teammate and had a noticeable limp. Wilson was then sent to the locker room for further evaluation and the Jets officially listed him as questionable to return with a knee injury. Veteran Mike White stepped in at quarterback after Wilson’s injury.

Considering this is just an exhibition, it wouldn’t be surprising for the team to sit him out for the rest of the game even if he is healthy enough to play. There is room for concern with this injury, however, as it does not appear that Wilson was touched as he took the field. And any time there’s a non-contact injury, it should make the team hold its breath.

Before the injury, Wilson hadn’t started a hot game. On the Jets’ opener of the night, he threw a bad interception on Eagles linebacker Kizer White on a pass intended for Corey Davis. Wilson completed three of his five passes for 23 yards and that pick before going down.

The former No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is entering his second season after a tough rookie campaign. In 13 games, he completed just 55.6 percent of his passes for 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
