A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $ 2.4 million for four orphaned children following a shooting that killed 19 elementary school children and two teachers this week.
Irma Garcia, 46, who taught at Rob Elementary School for 23 years, died in a shooting Tuesday while defending children in her classroom by shooter Salvador Ramos.
Two days later, her husband Joe Garcia died of a heart attack. Their children are between 12 and 23 years old.
Irma Garcia died in the shooting while defending her students, and Joe Garcia died of a heart attack two days later.
The online campaign, which was launched by cousin Debra Austin to raise $ 10,000 for children, has already reached nearly $ 2.5 million.
“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. I really believe that Joe died of a broken heart and the loss of the love of his life for more than 25 years was too much to bear, “Austin wrote on the GoFundMe family’s website.
