A British director says he expected violence on January 6: “I thought it would be even worse.”

The British director, whose crew documented former President Trump and his circle around the 2020 elections, said he predicted the violence that would take place on January 6, 2021, and believed that the attack on the Capitol “would be even worse.” .

Director Alex Holder told CBS’s Nora O’Donnell in an interview Thursday that he joked with his team on the eve of the Capitol riot: “You know the president will tell everyone to march on the Capitol.”

“We are prepared for what could happen,” said the O’Donnell director.

As his crew documented the rallies and events that led to Jan. 6 last year, Holder said the volume of rhetoric and a kind of militancy that emerged after the election were so significant that “it must end in something violent.” ”

“Even if you look at the way the previous campaign went, the idea of the election being something that would be irregular was already emerging during that time,” Holder said.

Holder documented Trump around the 2020 election, as well as before and after the Capitol attack. The director testified at a two-hour closed-door testimony Thursday before the election commission of the House of Representatives investigating the January 6 riot.

He also handed over material to the panel. In addition to footage of the Capitol uprising, Holder said he provided interviews with Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. 2020

On Thursday, Holder told O’Donnell that the evidence he provided, including interviews with Trump, would contain some new revelations.

Although he was close to Trump’s orbit at the time, Holder said the Jan. 6 result was inevitable because of Trump’s rhetoric.

“You tell 75 million people that their elections don’t count, and they, you know, trust you,” he added. “You are their president and they voted for you, and you say that their elections do not count, and then what – what else will happen?”
