A shooting on the Upper East Side in New York on Wednesday night killed a 20-year-old woman.
The shooting took place on East 95th St and Lexington Ave in Manhattan, when the woman was pushing a 3-month-old baby in a stroller around 8:30 p.m. ET.
The victim was taken to hospital and pronounced dead an hour later, New York Police Commissioner Kichant L. Sewell told a news conference at 10:30 p.m.
The woman was shot by an “unknown” suspect “at very close range,” Sewell said.

The commissioner said the suspect, described as a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and trousers, fled east in 1995 after shooting the woman once in the head.
She said no arrests had been made.

“We will find this man who is guilty of this horrific crime,” New York Mayor Eric Adams told a news conference. “We will find him and bring him to justice … to make sure that the innocent man receives this justice.

Adams added that he had spent his entire day before the shooting, addressing the “excessive proliferation” of weapons on the streets before the shooting “and how there was simply no fear of using those weapons against innocent New Yorkers. And that’s the result of that. ”
The baby was reportedly unharmed during the shooting.
