UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) – A woman was killed after being shot in the head while pushing a stroller in the Upper East Side.
Police said the incident took place on Lexington Avenue and 95th East Street around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday.
The 20-year-old victim was pushing a 3-month-old baby in a stroller when a man dressed entirely in a black hooded sweatshirt and trousers stepped from behind and shot the woman in the head.
A 10-year-old child who witnessed the murder told Eyewitness News it was a single shot.
“I just heard a huge noise. There was only one, but he was extremely strong, like Boom, the child said. “I saw a lot of people running away, and then I saw a few people. For example, I saw a woman downstairs, she fell. And at first I thought, “Is she okay?” And then I saw people calling 911 and the cops approached. “
The woman was taken to a Sofia hospital, where she died about an hour later.
Police said the baby was also rushed to hospital, but was unharmed.
The shooter fled the scene, traveling east on East 95th Street.
New York Mayor Eric Adams spoke at the scene after spending the day dealing with gun proliferation on city streets.
“When a mother pushes a pram down the block and is shot at point-blank range, it shows how this national problem affects families,” Adams said. “We will find this man who is guilty of this horrific crime. We will find him and bring him to justice.”
No arrests have been made so far.
Police are asking the public for help in finding the shooter.
