A prototype of the Google Pixel 7 has gone on sale on eBay

An alleged prototype of Google’s upcoming Pixel 7 smartphone has been posted on eBay, giving us our first look at the new phone in the wild months ahead of its planned release in the fall (via Android guru Michal Rahman).

Google unveiled the phone a few weeks ago on Google I / O, and what we can see in the prototype coincides with what Google has already shown. The distinctive camera strip is back and this year it is an aluminum strip with cutouts for the cameras. And the body of the alleged prototype is deep black, which looks exactly like one of the colors that Google showed at I / O.

The eBay list includes several photos of the front, back and side of the device, although there isn’t much to see that you can no longer see in official Google renderings. A photo of the included phone shows that it has 128GB of memory, which suggests that Google will again offer a 128GB model as an option for the end phone. A screenshot shows that the phone model is GVU6C. And one photo shows that this eBay retailer may have gotten the Pixel 7 Pro as well, as you can capture the reflection of what looks like the Pixel 7 Pro’s camera strip on the back of the Pixel 7 prototype.

We’ve put together images from the eBay list in the gallery below if you want to take a closer look:

In a statement to The Verge, the seller said they bought the Pixel 7 prototype from a wholesaler without knowing what it was. The seller says they found out it was a Pixel 7 after researching and seeing photos that look like the phone they have. They also say they had the Pixel 7 Pro, but have already sold it.

The ad is closed, so you will not be able to pick up this device for your collection. There were no offers for the prototype, and the starting price was $ 450. Google did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

This list of Pixel 7 is just the latest big leak before the release of the Pixel device, which has a history of surprises dating back to the first phone that bears that name. A prototype of the Pixel Watch was apparently found in a restaurant shortly before the announcement of the smartwatch in I / O. The mention of the Pixel 6A appeared in a coloring book back in January. Someone filmed what looked like a test device for the Pixel 6 Pro a few weeks before Google officially released the device. I could go on.

Unfortunately, we’ll probably wait a few months before Google shares more about the Pixel 7. The phones aren’t expected to arrive until the fall, and if the last few years are an indication, we should expect an event to launch in October. Until then, these eBay photos may be our best look at the upcoming phone … well, until it inevitably runs out again.
