The Russian army lost almost an entire battalion in an attempt to cross a river in eastern Ukraine.
Approximately 50 vehicles, including tanks, boats and armored personnel carriers, were destroyed and probably 1,000 soldiers were killed in a single strike by Ukrainian forces.
In what has been described as one of the heaviest battles of the war, artillery bombardment and air strikes devastated the battalion when it tried to use a pontoon bridge to cross the Seversky Donets River on Sunday.
