Huge jets of smoke and fumes can be seen through Exeter from the HGV fire near the Sainsbury store on Alfington Road. Seven fire extinguishers extinguish the fire.
The fire brigade was called on A377 Alphington Road, which is now blocked in both directions due to the fire of the articulated truck. Smoke billows across the road from the A30 (Alphington Junction) to the Sainsbury gas station.
A fire spokesman confirmed that an articulated truck was on fire and that six vehicles had been called to the A377 roundabout. The air ladder has already been requested. Two breathing apparatus, jets and a “fog spike” are used.
Locals in the area say they have seen smoke and there is a “terrible smell of burnt metal and rubber”.
