Actress Ann Hatch has been hospitalized with burns after crashing her car into a home in Los Angeles, Deadline has confirmed. The news was first reported by TMZ.
The crash happened at 10:55 a.m. Friday in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles, according to police.
“The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Preston Way at a high rate of speed, entered the T intersection at Preston Way and Walgrove Ave, ran off the road and collided with a residence in the 1700 block of Walgrove,” a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told Deadline.
“The vehicle was engulfed in flames and the driver was transported to a local hospital by the LAFD,” police said.
The house itself is also engulfed, with flames reaching the roof.
“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to reach, contain and completely extinguish the stubborn flames in the heavily damaged structure,” said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Multiple local media later confirmed that the blue Mini Clubman involved in the incident was registered to Heche.
Footage from a news helicopter from Fox11 shows the car went well into the house and may have hit one of its side walls.
Fox11’s eye in the sky, Stu Mandel, who often follows chases and accidents from the air, describes the scene unfolding below him.
As firefighters used cables from a massive tow truck to pull the car from the burning home, the charred top of the vehicle prompted Mandel, a veteran of many such incidents, to remark, “If there’s anyone alive in there, it would be a miracle.”
The man turned out to be alive and firefighters placed the victim on a gurney with his face covered and rolled him to a waiting ambulance. Just before they reach the ambulance, the man in the wheelchair sits down and tries to get out of it.
“Oh my gosh!” says Mandel, who at the time thought the driver was a man. “He is fully alive! He was trying to get away.
Moments later, after emergency workers have loaded the victim into the ambulance, a shocked Mandel says, “I don’t know. That was really, really weird.
According to TMZ, Heche was initially involved in a minor accident at an apartment complex in the Mar Vista area, crashing into a wall in a parking lot, but drove away from the scene. A little later, the house was hit.
Heche is working on several projects. She will soon be seen in Sam Levinson’s upcoming HBO drama series about the music industry, The Idol, alongside The Weeknd. In June, she signed on to Lifetime’s Girl in Room 13, which is set to premiere this fall. She will also star alongside Dermot Mulroney in the upcoming horror-thriller Full Ride and will appear again in All Rise on OWN. Most recently, Heche starred in the Peter Facinelli-directed psychological thriller The Vanished for Netflix, as well as Quiver’s tornado thriller 13 Minutes.
