Police have changed their account of the car crash that killed Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski (right), now saying the car Valorski was in crashed into another car after crossing the center line of the state highway.
Why it matters: The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office initially said Walorski and two of her officers, Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts, were killed when a car traveling in the opposite direction veered into oncoming traffic in northern Indiana .
- Potts was driving the vehicle at the time.
- The driver of the other car, Edith Schmucker, also died and the investigation is ongoing.
- It is not yet clear why the cars driven by Potts veered across the center line, the sheriff’s office said.
The big picture: Walorski’s death is another huge loss for the Hill community, which has suffered the deaths of two other House members this year.
- Walorski was the top Republican on the House Ethics Committee and had been in Congress since 2013.
