Just when Tampa Bay Lightning seemed to be beaten by Colorado Avelanch in this Stanley Cup final, they reminded fans why they are champions consistently. Take game 3, for example, when the Bolts responded 7-0, breaking the race before winning 6-2 at the Amalie Arena, extending a series that many thought was over. Or Friday, when Tampa – who left Game 4 with a loss and worries from the referees – entered the rocking Ball Arena to take down Avs with the Stanley Cup on the line.
Lightning’s resilience will again be needed in Game 6. Tampa returns to their home ice on Sunday night with a chance to force Game 7. Meanwhile, Avalanche are hoping to end Lightning’s race for a third straight Stanley Cup to win their third championship in the history of franchising and first since 2001.
Tampa scored a commendable 8-2 at home this postseason, but Colorado (8-1 away) proved it was traveling, as was its host opponent. If Lightning wins, they will be one game away from becoming the first team to successfully pick up a 3-1 deficit to win the Stanley Cup after the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. However, Colorado hopes to prove its dominance in the regular season (record 56-19-7, peaks in the Western Conference) translates when it matters most.
The puck is scheduled for 20:00 ET at Amalie Arena. The game will be broadcast on ABC and is available for streaming on fuboTV (try for free).
