President Joe Biden appeared in “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for his first online interview in 118 days on Wednesday night.
The president began his first personal appearance on a late-night talk show, discussing gun control efforts with comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel. Biden wasted no time in targeting Republicans, saying much of it was intimidation from the NRA. Look, this is not your father’s Republican Party. This is the MAGA party. “

The president spoke of his recent trip to Uwalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were shot dead at Rob Elementary School.
“I met with every member of the family of all the children killed and those teachers killed in Uwalde, Texas,” Biden said. “The stories they told and the pain you could see on their faces.”

Kimmel then questioned Biden about the possibility of issuing an executive order for gun control, saying former President Donald Trump was “handing out these like Halloween candies.”
The president replied: “I have issued executive orders within the powers of the presidency so that I can deal with everything related to weapons, possession of weapons … all things that are within my powers.”
He continued to accuse Trump of abusing the constitution, saying he did not want to “imitate” his predecessor.
“But what I don’t want to do and I’m not kidding, I don’t want to emulate Trump’s abuse of the constitution and constitutional powers,” Biden said.
The president then accused Republicans of endangering democracy.
“I’m often asked, ‘Republicans aren’t playing right, why are you playing straight?'” Biden said. “If we do the same thing they do, our democracy will literally be threatened. This is not a joke!”

Kimmel then told the president he thought Democrats were disappointed to win the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House, and had made very little progress on weapons, reproductive rights, voting rights and climate change. “Somehow we moved back.”
Biden responded by saying that “we have actually made some real moves” when it comes to climate change. He cites efforts to boost solar and wind energy, as well as electric vehicles.

The president then painted a positive picture of the current economic situation in the United States, despite the fact that Americans are facing record high inflation and rising gas prices.
“That’s where we are,” he said. “We have the fastest growing economy in the world. We have 8.6 million new jobs since I took office. The unemployment rate fell to 3.6%. We reduced the deficit last year by $ 320 billion. We will cut it by $ 1.7 trillion this year. “
He acknowledged that inflation was “the curse of our existence” and suggested he wanted to work to reduce spending on health care, prescription drugs and childcare.
Biden told Kimmel that he had never been so optimistic in his life, saying that American children were the most educated, least prejudiced, and the most generous generation in American history.
BIDEN FOR MORE THAN 100 DAYS WITHOUT INTERVIEW IN THE MINISTRY OF MEDIA: “HIS LEADERS ARE STONE”
The interview ended with Biden and Kimmel discussing an upcoming US Supreme Court ruling that could overturn the landmark Rowe abortion case against Wade. Biden said he did not think the country would “oppose” if the Supreme Court overturned Rowe, and hinted that there were some enforcement orders he could use to counter the outcome. He did not provide further details on potential enforcement orders.
Biden said that if the Supreme Court overturned Rowe v. Wade and the United States began imposing restrictions on abortion, it would spark a “mini-revolution.” He said many people could be voted for.
First Lady Jill Biden accompanied the president on the show’s recording. She was seen in the audience in the live studio in a mask and sat next to several other members of the Biden family.

Biden’s appearance in “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” comes amid a dangerous period for his presidency. Biden’s approval rating fell to 39% by the end of May in an AP-NORC poll, his worst assessment since entering the White House. A ABC-IPSOS poll released on Sunday found that only 28 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s response to inflation and 27 percent approve of his response to rising gas prices.
A poll by the AP at the same time last year showed that the president has a rating of approval of 63%, which is 24 points higher than his rating in May 2022.

Ahead of an interview with Kimmel on Wednesday, the president joined NBC’s Leicester Holt on Feb. 10 before the Super Bowl, which marked his last major media appearance nearly four months ago to this day. Biden then conducted two other friendly interviews with historian Heather Cox Richardson and YouTube progressive presenter Brian Tyler Cohen in late February.
