Biden’s White House adviser, Gene Sperling, admitted Sunday that he has not felt the pain of inflation and high gas prices as much as those earning $ 50,000 or $ 60,000 a year while defending the president’s communications strategy.
Speaking at CNN’s Reliable Sources, Sperling was pressured by host Brian Stelter to see if the administration should reevaluate its communications tactics, noting a recent publication on inflation written by Biden in the Wall Street Journal. “Who really reads articles?” Stelter asked.
Sperling said the president’s strategy in writing articles was for him to “speak directly” to the American people. He stressed that it is “difficult” and that when gas prices rise, the president’s approval rating decreases.
“But we have a very strong message about what the American bailout plan is, what its bipartisan infrastructure plan has done for this economy, and the fact that it’s him, not the Republicans, who is fighting every day to do everything he can administratively. “Sperling continued.”

Stelter asked if Sperling was experiencing the pain that Americans are experiencing with record high gas prices and rising inflation.
“You know, I feel the pain for so many families in our lives,” he said.
“I mean, $ 72 for gas this morning, do you feel it?” Are you paying for it? ”Stelter pressed.

Stelter asked Sperling if there was “value” in looking at the past and what the administration could do about inflation, and why Biden was so dismissive of what economist Larry Summers had warned at the time.

“I just don’t think that’s a proper assessment of what caused global inflation,” Sperling said. “The OECD, which has 38 countries, the 38 largest countries, has an average inflation rate of 9.2%. Biden outlined his inflation plan in a Wall Street Journal article, stressing the importance of giving the Fed the space it needs to make the necessary changes.
He also called on Congress to act on its social spending plan and reform the tax code. He blamed high gas prices for the war in Ukraine.
