Shay Mitchell’s family has just grown a little bigger. On Sunday, June 5, Mitchell revealed the first photo of his second daughter Rome on Instagram. The day before, she confirmed to People that she and her five-year-old partner Matt Babel welcomed their baby at the end of May. The couple are also the parents of 2-year-old Atlas Noah.
Mitchell announced for the first time that he was expecting his second baby in February. The actor from “Wonderful Little Lies” shared the news on bitter Instagram about the difficulties in balancing the joy of the new addition to her family with the grief she is feeling from the loss of her grandmother.
“Saying goodbye to a loved one while experiencing the joy of meeting another in this world is a great life cycle,” she signed the post. “This is also my most challenging season so far. I can’t help but think that this has been the plan of the universe all along, knowing that I will need another worldly joy to soften the blow of losing one of the most important people in my life. And yet, it is proof that love, life and loss can coexist deeply. “
The actor shared how comforting it is to know that her baby and her beloved grandmother share a cosmic relationship. “Bamo, I miss you every day. A little, so excited to meet you,” she wrote. “I breathe peace, knowing that you two are already connected in such a cosmic way.”
Now Mitchell has revealed that Rome and her grandmother will share an even more special relationship through the baby’s name. “The loss of the most important person in my life in the same year I met my second daughter changed everything for me, but one thing remains stable in my soul – I’m sure they spent time together and it brings me peace and joy.
