Canadian teenager arrested for threatening to shoot pride event in Florida

A Canadian teenager has been arrested for threatening to open fire on an LGBTQ event in West Palm Beach over the weekend, officials said Monday.

The suspect, whose name was not released, posed with a firearm as he promised to shoot at the Pride of the Bloc gathering and claimed to live in the area, according to reports.

The threat was made on the social media platform Omegle on Sunday, cops said.

“The suspect, brandishing a gun in the video, said he lived in Palm Beach County, was commenting against LGBTQ + and would carry out a mass shooting that day, this event,” the West Palm Beach Police Department said in a statement.

The agency stepped up security with SWAT and undercover officers by launching a wider investigation into the suspects.

Investigators – including the Toronto Police Department and the NYPD – targeted and arrested a 17-year-old man in Canada.

The suspect now faces multiple charges in Florida, including making “threats of mass shootings,” officials said.

The gun shown in the recording was found by Canadian authorities.

The online threat comes weeks after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos fatally shot dead 19 children and two teachers at a Texas elementary school.

On June 12, 2016, 49 people were killed and dozens injured when terrorist Omar Matin, 29, opened fire on Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando.
