MONTREAL — Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Saturday that defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Pauling have been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Mike Mathison and a 2023 fourth-round pick.
A 6-foot-2, 188-pound guard, Mathison had 11 goals and 20 assists in 74 games with the Penguins last season before adding one goal and five assists in seven playoff games.
Drafted 23rd overall by the Florida Panthers in 2012, the Pointe-Claire, QC native has 138 points (49 goals, 89 assists) in 417 career NHL games.
Petrie was acquired by the Oilers on March 2, 2015. He accumulated 70 goals and 178 assists in 508 games with the Canadiens.
Drafted 25th overall by Montreal in 2017, Pohling has scored 13 goals and added nine assists in 85 career NHL games.
