COVID update in Chicago today: The city is already at high risk for the CDC along with several local counties

CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago has focused on the high risk of transmitting COVID to the CDC, along with several counties in the Chicago area.

In the Chicago area, Cook, DuPage, Lake (Illinois), McHenry, Will and Grandi counties appeared as “high risk” on the CDC map when it was updated on Thursday afternoon.

Chicago Public Health Commissioner Dr. Alison Aruadi predicted the move earlier in the day.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Dr Aruadi said moving to a high level of risk meant everyone had to wear an indoor face mask, but stopped asking for a mask mandate. Aruadi said the city would consider introducing a mask mandate if the hospital system is burdened with cases.

Aruadi said the move to high risk means residents need to make sure they are aware of COVID booster vaccines.

The average number of cases in the city is over 1,000 a day, but Dr Aruadi said there were signs that they were holding back.

In addition to wearing a mask indoors, Aruadi said residents should avoid crowded indoor gatherings, limit gatherings to a small number, and test immediately if you have symptoms.

Anyone who takes a positive test is asked to isolate themselves for five days, and if they feel better, they can go out in public while wearing a mask for the next five days.
