Ballou Park, in the Glenmore area of Kelowna
The Kelowna Fire Department had to act quickly to put out a small grass fire at Ballou Park, near Ballou Rd. in the Glenmore area of Kelowna.
Smoke was seen by a person in the area of Watson Elementary School and the fire department responded quickly. Firefighters at the scene tell Castanet it was a small, Class 1 fire that was quickly extinguished and had very little damage.
Construction is underway as improvements are made to Ballou Park in Glenmore.
The park is fully closed with limited access to Knox Mountain from June 13 until approximately November 2022.
Castanet has contacted the Kelowna Fire Department for more details.
This is not the first fire in the Kelowna area. Back in July 2018, emergency crews responded to a brush fire at Ballou Park on Yates Road in the densely populated Glenmore Valley at around 1pm on 27 July.
After the smoke cleared, it was determined that the fire had been started by two young boys playing with matches.
