The controversial former mayor of New York, Rudolf Giuliani, was attacked by a ShopRite employee on Sunday while campaigning for his son’s candidacy for governor in the Staten Island neighborhood. .
Giuliani, 78, was hit in the back by an unidentified ShopRite employee, according to the New York Post. The attack reportedly shook him, the report said.
“I was stunned,” eyewitness Rita Rugova-Johnson told The Post after the supermarket attack. “I was side by side with Rudy at ShopRite,” Rugova-Johnson said. “We’re talking, and suddenly an employee came out of nowhere and openly hit him on the back and said, ‘Hey, what’s up, scumbag?’
The worker was detained in the store. His accusations and identity were not immediately known.
Giuliani campaigned for his son, Andrew Giuliani, who ran in the Republican primary for governor.
A former lawyer and adviser to President Donald Trump, Giuliani caused a stir earlier this year when he was unmasked as an outgoing costume designer in a season 7 episode of the popular Fox series The Masked Singer. Judges Ken Yong and Robin Tick left the stage in protest of Giuliani’s appearance when his identity was revealed.
Giuliani was also the subject of ridicule for her involuntary appearance in the 2020 film Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. He was lured into the hotel’s bedroom under the pretext of an interview with a conservative newspaper. The awkward confrontation with actress Maria Bakalova seems to be heading for a sexual encounter, but ends with Borat running into the room and shouting “She’s 15. She’s too old for you.”
