Gas prices in Ottawa are falling below $ 2 a liter

The cost of refilling the gas tank for the beginning of your long trip over the weekend has become a little cheaper, but the relief of the pumps will be short-lived.

Gas prices fell 10 cents a liter at Ottawa stations to 196.6 cents a liter at gas stations in Ottawa on Friday, while some stations sold for $ 1.95.

But Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague says prices are expected to rise above $ 2 a liter over the weekend.

“This is the only day I would recommend to be filled,” McTeague told CP24 in Toronto. “We will see an increase of four cents on Saturday.”

McTeague said late Friday afternoon that gas prices would fall by two cents a liter on Sunday.

Several stations charged 206.9 cents per liter in Ottawa on Saturday, but some stations continued to post below $ 2 / L.

Gas prices fell 13 cents a liter at stations in Ottawa and southern Ontario on Wednesday, which McTeague said was “very unexpected” as markets fell amid fears of a recession.

Ottawa’s highest gasoline price was $ 2.09 a liter on Wednesday.

McTeague says gas prices will exceed that by next weekend.

“Next week, Americans will begin their unofficial start to the summer driving season. This will put a lot of pressure on gas prices for us here in Canada. “They really set the prices for us, they’re a big market,” McTeague said Friday morning.

“I would expect to return to $ 2.10 per liter, probably within the next week. Unfortunately, this is not good news; the shortage of supply and demand is quite strong despite the high price. “

According to ottawagasprices.com, the average price of gasoline in Ottawa was $ 1.25 per liter in May 2021 and $ 0.87 per liter in May 2020.
