There was some relief from the pumps this long weekend, as petrol fell below two dollars a liter in Ottawa.
Prices fell by nearly ten cents for the unofficial start of summer, but with greater demand for pumps, some gas stations ran out of fuel.
Such was the case at Eagleson Road Station, which had no gas for hours.
A sign on all the pumps reads: “Gas running out, sorry for the inconvenience.”
Officials at the Kanata gas station said they were waiting for a fuel truck to arrive from around 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The delay means many have left without refueling.
Those who were on the road this weekend feel the pinch of expensive gas.
“The total cost of the drive in this two-liter turbo, I think, was about $ 80,” said Osama Naweid, who traveled from Milton to Ottawa this weekend.
“The truck cost me about $ 100 and now it’s close to $ 200 to fill it,” said Ted Vonboeticher, an Ottawa resident. “I hope that these prices will eventually fall, I think people have come to terms with the price of gas at this time,” he said.
Although there has been some relief, experts say it will not continue.
“I would expect to return to $ 2.10 a liter probably next week,” said Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy.
McTeague said this is because when the United States begins its unofficial start to summer next week, it will put pressure on gas prices north of the border.
