PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Three General Hospital stars won acting honors, and the soap’s film crew won the Emmy Daily Awards on Friday night.
Kelly Thibaut won as a supporting actress for the role of Dr. Brit Westburn, and Jeff Cober won as a supporting role for her role as Cyrus Reno. Nicolas Chavez won as a junior performer in the ABC drama.
“Come on!” said Chavez. “Just over a year ago, I was selling cars in a small beach town in Florida. I have always had the love and support of my family, but none of us dreamed of going on this stage. “
The jubilant Thibaut won his first nomination.
“I can’t believe it. I’m so shocked,” she said. “My brother, when I first started playing, he followed my work and said to himself, ‘You’re not that good.’ So thank you for giving me something to rub in his face.”
Kober is known for his extensive film and prime time work on shows such as Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead.
“Wow, thank you for making me feel so welcome during the day. What a trip, “he said.” I love what we make a living from, it’s a game.
For the third year in a row, the director’s team from the General Hospital also won. NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” won for a writing team.
Kelly Clarkson won her third consecutive trophy as host of an entertaining talk show. Her show of the same name also won its second consecutive trophy for an entertaining talk show. The singer is on holiday with her children and is not present.
Tamron Hall took her second consecutive trophy as host of an informative talk show.
Daytime doyenne Susan Lucy, who starred in “All My Children” during the show’s 41-year broadcast, received a standing ovation. She presented the In Memoriam segment, which includes a photo of her husband, Helmet Huber, who died in March. Michael Bolton sang his hit “How Should I Live Without You”.
John Aniston of Days of Our Lives was honored with a lifetime achievement award for his 37-year role as Victor Kyriakis. The 88-year-old actor was not present.
He was introduced through a video by his daughter Jennifer Aniston, who said: “His career is literally the definition of a lifelong achievement.” She noted that he began playing in prime time in 1962 and also appeared in such non-existent soaps as “Love of Life” and “Search For Tomorrow” before joining Days in 1985.
After two years of pre-recorded presentations over the coronavirus pandemic, the day returned to honoring its family at night with a personal ceremony. In 2020, the show became virtual for the first time, and last year the audience was limited.
Still, the ghost of COVID-19 was felt.
Two nominees from the Young and Troubled were forced to bow. Lead nominee Jason Thompson, who plays Billy Abbott, and supporting actress nominee Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby Newman, both said on social media that they had tested positive for COVID-19 and would miss the show.
Kevin Fraser and Michelle Turner of Entertainment Tonight co-hosted the 49th annual awards ceremony at the Pasadena Convention Center, where many of the nominees sat at socially remote cocktail tables and others sat in rows next to each other.
Fraser and Turner turned out to be hosting an Emmy day when ET won for a series of entertainment news.
Turner opened the show with a reference to the Supreme Court, which overturned women’s constitutional protection for abortions earlier Friday. She told Fraser emphatically that it was “her choice” to wear her blue dress. The crowd cheered and some women stood up.
Supporting actress nominee Nancy Lee Gran of General Hospital walked the red carpet indoors, carrying links to the news of the day. She had a temporary “reproductive freedom” tattoo on her chest, the word “choice” on her disc earrings, and carried a black bag with the words “Prohibition of Our Bodies” written in crystals.
“I dare not go through this process without talking about the devastation I feel about what happened today and what a dark day it is for women in this country,” said the 66-year-old actor. “We will not allow this, we will not tolerate it.”
