Honoring a husband after his 30-year-old wife was found dead in the solarium

A husband described his late wife as “the most generous man you could ever meet” after she was found dead in a solarium.

Piata Tauwhare’s body was found at the Lextan Solarium near her home in Swansea on Saturday, May 28, after she attended an 11-minute tanning session. The 30-year-old man is believed to have received a cardiac arrest just minutes after getting out of the solarium.

The mental health officer was found by her mother-in-law after she had not heard a word from her for an hour, finding her dead on the floor in the solarium she used. Piata’s husband, Ifan Jones, said his wife was “the most generous person you can meet.”

He told Liverpool Echo: “No one could say a bad word about her and she would bow to anyone, friends, family or strangers. It is hard.

“She helped me with everything. I suffer from anxiety and things like that and literally anything, she would do anything for me. Each of my friends and family immediately agreed with her. Everyone loved her. If they ever see me without her, everyone would ask how she is. “

Ifan, who lived with Piata in Swansea, added that he believed she could have been rescued if she had been found earlier, saying solarium staff should have checked on her. “She had something like a cardiac arrest at the Lextan solarium,” he added.

“She went in there at 13:50 for an 11-minute session. She didn’t answer her phone, so my mother and I took time off to see if everything was okay. We found her lying dead in the room.

“Staff members had not checked it out. She must have had a funny twist and died. From what I was told, the longest you can be there is 20 minutes, but it was only booked for 11 minutes.

“They usually come and check five minutes after the session so they can clean the bed for the next client. They didn’t even check if he was inside or not. My mother found her.

“I asked her to look, so the staff took her to an empty room and there was no telephone. Then, when my mother was leaving, they realized that she was in another room and the door was locked. My mother looked under the door and saw her legs. Then they went to find the key, and when we finally entered, she was dead. “

Ifan has already set up GoFundMe to help raise money to transport Piata’s body to a traditional funeral in her home country of New Zealand. “We want to bring her back to New Zealand to be with friends and family and have a traditional funeral,” he said.

“I also want to go there and be with her to see her finally die. There will be a ceremony here with friends and family to show their respect, but then we will take it to New Zealand to do it right. “

A Lextan spokesman said: “It is with sadness that we can confirm that a client died while in our Fforestfach salon on Saturday, 28 May. We express our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and we also offered advice to all affected staff. We are cooperating with the South Wales Police investigation into this case and any further investigations should be made to them at this time. “
