In Nunavut there is a sharp increase in respiratory diseases

There were more cases of respiratory disease in Nunavut this spring than in the last two years combined, according to the health department of the territory, Nunatsiaq News reported.

This includes influenza, as well as respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, for which 126 laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported between April 1 and May 21 this year. In comparison, during the same seven-week period in 2019, the department said, there were only 56 reported cases.

To provide children with the best protection against severe RSV-related illness, the government said it would immediately restart its palivizumab vaccination program.
