Israeli President Isaac Herzog has dismissed CNN reports suggesting Israeli forces were responsible for the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akleh.

However, CNN published a report this week claiming that not only Israeli forces were responsible for her death, but that Abu Akleh was killed “in a targeted attack.”

“A CNN investigation offers new evidence – including two videos from the scene of the shooting – that there was no active battle or Palestinian extremists near Abu Akleh at the time of her death,” the report said Tuesday. “Videos obtained by CNN, corroborated by the testimony of eight eyewitnesses, an audiocriminal and an explosive weapons expert, suggest that Abu Akleh was shot dead in a targeted attack by Israeli forces.”

A CNN report said he viewed “11 videos” from different angles of the Israeli military convoy “before, during and after the assassination of Abu Akle”, but noted that eyewitnesses who filmed the incident “did not capture the moment when she was hit by a bullet “as they were also on the line of fire.

Witnesses told CNN that Palestinian extremists were not at the site of the West Bank attack where Abu Akle was killed.

The IS told CNN that it was investigating the death of Abu Akleh and “called on the Palestinian Authority to cooperate in a joint forensic examination with US officials to definitively determine the source of the tragic death.”
The Israeli military has previously acknowledged that it is unclear which country fired the fatal shot, and initial findings from the probe suggest it could have been hit by Palestinian gunmen or an Israeli 200-meter (about 656-foot) sniper.
During a meeting of the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, Herzog called the killing a “very sad event” and reiterated his call for a joint investigation with the Palestinians, who he said had “refused”.

“In the past, we have gone through cases in which we have been accused, and later it turned out to be true that there are many false facts,” the Israeli president continued. “I said then.
