Leclerc was forced to retire from the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan last Sunday while leading the race after a failure of his engine, which Ferrari confirmed had left it “beyond repair”.
This was the last drop in reliability for Leclerc during a difficult period, which also showed him that he was retiring when he led to Spain due to a problem with his power unit, leaving Ferrari facing potential penalties in the net.
Ahead of Friday’s training session for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the FIA confirmed that Ferrari has taken a new engine, MGU-H, MGU-K and control electronics, all within its distribution for the season.
But after the completion of FP2, a second FIA document confirms that Leclerc has taken another new control electronics, the third of the year.
As this exceeds the seasonal limit of two control electronics, this caused a drop in the network of 10 seats, which Leclerc will take on Sunday.
The main concern before the weekend was the Leclerc turbocharger, after the new one, presented in Azerbaijan, was deleted due to damage to the power unit. However, it still has a usable one in its seasonal pool, which means no change has been needed so far.

Speaking this morning, Leclerc admitted that “it’s not the best position to be” facing penalties so early in the season.
“This is one of the tracks where it’s pretty easy to overtake, but there are also tracks in the next three or four races where it’s also pretty easy to overtake,” Leclerc said.

Although Max Verstappen topped both FP1 and FP2 for Red Bull in Montreal on Friday, Leclerc managed to finish the day second fastest, with just 0.081 seconds less than the best time of the afternoon.
Although it will currently fall by only 10 seats, Ferrari may try to take advantage of the failure and introduce other new parts in the pool if it deems the start of the rear net worthwhile.
AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda has already confirmed that he is starting the race from the back of the field, after the team took an entirely new power unit for the weekend.
