Trance children going through “nothing more than a phase,” says the Conservative MP Political news

Students who identify as trance are going through “nothing more than a phase,” a Conservative MP said.

Nick Fletcher, a Don Valley MP in South Yorkshire, sent a letter to every school in his constituency asking everyone to state their position on the “trance issue”.

He also called on schools to “repel” children who question their gender identity, and suggested that “transgender lifestyles” be glamorous.

“I believe that boys are just boys and girls are girls,” Mr Fletcher’s letter said.

“Obviously there are some who may feel different from that.

“I remember in my childhood there were girls who were seen as ‘Tomboys’ and usually or probably pre-adolescent boys who liked company more than girls, so that’s nothing new in itself.

“What is new is the way it is viewed now. It seems from the media that now our children and young people are seeing that they may or may not be transsexual when it comes to feeling like a boy or a girl.

“Books that make this ideology acceptable, and such media in all its forms that fascinate this transgender lifestyle, are afraid that they reaffirm something that is nothing more than a phase.

“I understand that schools sometimes feel like they have to be everything to everyone and are afraid of being classified as transphobic.

“But please rest assured that it is desperate to withdraw from this, and if you do, I will stand up for you at all times and stand up for your resolve.”

Mr Fletcher has previously criticized the idea of women playing traditional male roles on screen, suggesting that young men commit crimes because positive male role models on television have been replaced by female characters.

Speaking during a debate on International Men’s Day at Westminster Hall last November, Mr Fletcher highlighted the difficulties faced by many young boys, telling lawmakers that some were “lagging behind” in school.

Mr Fletcher said in the debate that there appeared to be a “small but very vocal minority” who wanted a female replacement for “any male character or good role model”.

“In recent years, we’ve seen Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker, the Equalizer, all replaced by women, and the men stay with Kreis and Tommy Shelby (from the crime drama Peaky Blinders),” said the Don Valley MP.

“Is it any wonder that we see so many young men committing crimes?

“These programs make crime look great.

“Believe me, a lifetime in prison is not cool, nor is it to live with the memory of a stabbed son or daughter.

Jody Whitaker became the first female Doctor Who in 2017, while a remake of Ghostbusters in 2016 featured an all-female cast.

In his remarks, Mr Fletcher was criticized by Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael, who told the Commons: “Nick Fletcher seems to have set foot in the Tardis and returned to the 1950s, where belongs to his attitude.

Mr Fletcher, who became an MP in 2019, later posted a statement on Twitter saying that his “nuanced point” had been “misinterpreted”.

“As was a very lazy statement by several people, I did not associate Dr. Koi, who is a woman, with a crime committed by men,” he said.

“In fact, I made a statement that boys and young men also need positive role models in the media, just like women.

“Boys need positive male role models and this is a point I will keep repeating and I will never apologize for it.”

Mr Fletcher was contacted for comment.
