The driver of a commercial truck was killed in a rollover crash on the Trans-Canada Highway early Friday morning, RCMP say.
Just before 4 a.m., officers from the Grand Falls-Windsor detachment were called by someone passing by the scene of the crash, just east of the Bay d’Espoir intersection.
Police said the 49-year-old man was transporting fuel when he went off the highway and overturned the truck.
An RCMP collision analyst was at the scene and police said they are still investigating, along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Police say a “significant” amount of fuel was spilled in the crash and cleanup efforts are underway.
As of Friday afternoon, police still had the stretch of highway down to one lane of traffic.
