Mo Brooks is facing Fox News’s Sandra Smith over the election

Alabama spokesman Mo Brooks insisted in an interview with Fox News on Sunday that widespread voter fraud cost former President Donald Trump the 2020 election – forcing Fox News Sunday guest host Sandra Smith to intervene and repel .

The conversation with Brooks derailed after Smith asked the Trump MP to withdraw his approval from Brooks for the US Senate.

Brooks said the 45th president’s decision “revolves around his desire to cancel the election.”

“And I can tell he wants to do that, can’t I?” He was robbed, in my opinion, in 2020. In his opinion, he was robbed. And so I can understand that desire, “Brooks said.

“And just to get into the record, there’s still no evidence or proof that there was any fraud in…,” Smith interrupted.

“Oh, no, that’s wrong,” Brooks said. “I don’t know why you keep saying that in the media, but this is an absolute lie. This is absolutely untrue. You keep saying it every time, but it’s completely untrue. ”

“What’s wrong, sir?” Smith asked.

“You had 150 congressmen and senators who absolutely disagreed with what you just said,” Brooks said. “So what do you call them?” What do you call them when you say that 150 Republican senators and congressmen are addressing the issue of voter fraud and saying there is a big problem?

“What do you call the Federal Electoral Reform Commission? and warned us that the election would be stolen if we did not solve these problems and these problems were not eliminated? ”the congressman growled.

“So I don’t know who tells you that there is no evidence, but that tells me you didn’t do your homework. I’m sorry, but that’s the way it is, “he continued.

As the two spoke to each other repeatedly, Smith tried to point out that judges and other Trump officials said there was no widespread election fraud.

“No, no, the courts – time out. Don’t go into this. “Don’t get into this,” Brooks began.

“Wait a minute, no, no. I get – I get the last word on this because you just made a false statement, okay? added the Alabama MP.

“The courts are not the last arbiter of who wins the federal election. It is Congress. This is required by the Constitution of the United States. “This is required by the United States Code of Congressmen, Senators and the President,” he said. “So don’t be surprised that the courts do not usurp power, which is allowed in the United States Congress.

After the 2020 presidential election, dozens of lawsuits filed by Trump or his fraud allies were rejected by state and federal judges.

In December of that year, even Trump-appointed Attorney General William Barr revealed that the Justice Department had found no evidence of widespread voter fraud that could change the election result.

However, Brooks continued to insist that Trump had been unjustly beaten, at one point telling Smith to watch a controversial election fraud documentary directed by conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza.

“Check out the 2000 documentary Mules. “Look at how much bulletin mail there was in the United States, for which we are not sure,” he said.

Smith responded, noting that the documentary “has been reviewed and verified by a number of media outlets, including Reuters, which have debunked this as some evidence that there was widespread voter fraud.”

The two continued to talk to each other for a few moments, and Brooks could be heard saying to Smith, “You’re completely wrong, Sandra. But continue with this story if you wish.

Despite Brooks’ strong defense against the former president on Sunday, he lost Trump’s favor earlier this year after the congressman urged his supporters to continue with the 2020 loss.

“When I heard his statement, I said, ‘Mo, you just failed the election and there’s nothing you can do about it,'” Trump said in March. “It’s very sad, but because he decided to go the other way, I, too, withdrew my approval of Mo Brooks for the Senate. I don’t think the great people of Alabama will disagree with me. Election fraud must be caught and stopped, or we will no longer have a state. “

Without Trump’s support, Brooks failed to garner enough votes to win a Republican nomination in the Senate on May 24.

He will face Katie Britt in the run-off election on June 21, after Britt won 44.8% of the vote, compared to 29.1% for Brooks.
