Depp v. Hurd Trial: A Brief Summary
Depp, 58, is suing Hurd in Virginia for $ 50 million, claiming she slandered him when he called himself a “public figure representing domestic violence.”
Hurd, 36, has filed a $ 100 million counterclaim, claiming that Depp smeared her when his lawyer called her allegations “fraud.”
Hurd concluded her testimony on Thursday, saying she was “harassed, humiliated, threatened” on social media after accusing the Pirates of the Caribbean star of physical and sexual violence.
“People want to kill me and they tell me every day,” Hurd said. “People want to put my baby in the microwave. Hurd adopted a baby girl in July 2021. She said the ongoing harassment was part of Depp’s crusade to humiliate her in public.
Depp admitted that he wrote in a text from 2016 that Hurd “begs for total global humiliation” and “she will get it.” He said it was written in anger when he learned that she claimed he had physically abused her.
“He wanted to ruin my career,” Hurd told the jury. “The threats he made to humiliate me on a global scale are being experienced in real time, in front of you … and the whole world. Depp denied hitting Hurd or any woman and said she was the one who became violent in their relationship. The two met in 2011 during the filming of “The Rum Diary” and married in February 2015. Their divorce was finalized about two years later.
“No man is perfect,” Depp said Wednesday. “But I have never in my life committed sexual violence, physical violence.
