FromSoftware is busy. Just months after the delivery of Elden Ring, the game’s director behind it, Hidetaka Miyazaki, says his company’s next project is in the final stages of development, according to a new interview with Japan’s 4Gamer.
The next game coming from FromSoftware could be a new entry into the Armored Core franchise, based on a substantial and legitimate-looking leak from January. Miyazaki hinted at a revival of the mechanization franchise for years. Armored Core: Verdict Day, released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is the latest entry.
Miyazaki also said more updates to Elden Ring were planned, but it was unclear whether he was considering additional content – FromSoftware has not yet announced any extensions – or balancing changes and fixes to his open-world RPG. The developer’s Dark Souls series and Bloodborne saw significant additions to the content after the release in the form of new extensions. But a more recent title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, received a much smaller update – in 2020, FromSoftware updated its samurai action game with fast boss mode, new costumes and short gameplay recordings called Remnants.
In the interview, Miyazaki also said that he was in the process of directing his next play and that he wanted to deal with a more “abstract” approach to fantasy. But Miyazaki isn’t the only one sitting in the director’s chair at FromSoftware; he says many games are being developed led by other employees. The developer is growing (and improving his salaries), says Miyazaki, and like many other game developers is gaining new talent.
