House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, of California, said in a statement Sunday that the newly adopted framework for gun control and prevention of gun violence by a bipartisan group of senators “will take steps to save lives.”
The framework, focused on gun control and the prevention of gun violence, was announced by a group of bipartisan senators on Sunday and includes measures to implement an intensified screening process for people who want to buy firearms and are under the age of 21. for straw purchases, etc. funding staff for school resources, expanding mental health programs in schools, and expanding mental health services for children and families.
Pelosi said in a statement Sunday that the two-party proposal “will take steps to save lives”, but added that “more is needed”.
“While more is needed, this package will take steps to save lives. The Senate includes proposals from Democrats in the House of Representatives to encourage states to enact laws for an emergency risk protection order and to remove weapons from the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves or others, “Pelosi said.

Pelosi added that “Democrats will never stop working to stop the bloodshed” when it comes to gun violence.
“America’s gun violence epidemic has reached a fever – and Democrats will never stop working to end the bloodshed. “As we move forward on this bipartisan framework, we continue to fight for more life-saving measures: including universal screening of the past, banning high-capacity magazines and raising the age of purchase of assault weapons, which must also become law,” she said.
The bipartisan framework for gun violence was announced by Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornin (R-Texas), Tom Tillis (RN.C.), Kirsten Cinema (D-Ariz.), Richard Blumenthal (D – Connecticut), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Corey Booker (D-NJ), Richard Burr (RN.C.), Bill Cassidy (R-La), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chris Koons (D- Del.), Lindsay Graham (RS.C.), Martin Heinrich (DN.M.), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Angus King (I-Maine), Joe Manchin (DW.Va.), Rob Portman (Ohio), Mitt Romney (Utah), Debbie Stabenow (D, Michigan) and Pat Toomie (PA).
“Today we announce a sensible, bipartisan proposal to protect America’s children, protect our schools, and reduce the threat of violence across our country. “Families are scared and it is our duty to get together and do something that will help restore their sense of security and safety in their communities,” the senators said in a statement.

“Our plan increases the resources needed for mental health, improves school safety and support for students, and helps ensure that dangerous criminals and those recognized as mentally ill cannot buy weapons. Most importantly, our plan saves lives while protecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. We look forward to gaining broad, bipartisan support and accepting our reasonable proposal into law, “they added.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement agreeing with the framework on Sunday, adding that he was “glad that Senators Cornin and Murphy continue to advance in their discussions.”
“I continue to hope that their discussions will lead to a bipartisan product that makes significant progress on key issues such as mental health and school safety, respects the Second Amendment, wins broad Senate support and makes a difference for our country,” McConnell said.

The announcement comes just weeks after a mass shooting at Rob Elementary School in Uwalde, Texas that killed 19 children and two adults.
