Phyllis wins a diva in Washington to sweep the Nats

WASHINGTON – The Philistines didn’t play perfect baseball in their game against the Washington National, but that didn’t seem to matter as holiday music erupted in the clubhouse after 12 a.m. at the stadium late Friday night.

The Files survived a series of mistakes that included leaving too many runners at the base in the opening and expensive rides with bullpen, two mistakes in running the base and an almost fatal mistake in playing in a nightcap to execute the national team.

The Philistines opened 5-3. The second game was wild and Phils won it 8-7.

Both wins pushed Phils to the top four games of the season over .500 at 35-31. They took the first three games from this five player and have now won five consecutive series for the first time since 2011, the last time they qualified for the playoffs.

The Files are 14-2 in June and 13-2 under new captain Rob Thomson.

“Great day,” Thomson said when he was done.

He admitted that the team overcame some mistakes during the long, hot and exhausting day.

“It’s just the character of this club,” he said. “They believe.”

The biggest reason Phyllis was able to cover up his nightgown flaws was Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber’s babbling errors, two damaging walks and Nick Nelson’s incredible pitch in the sixth and Didi Gregorius’ error that allowed the Nats to equalize. the game at the bottom of the ninth – was that they did some little things so well.

JT Realmuto beat a potential double-play ball to keep the eighth inning alive for Bryce Harper with tongs to get off the bench and complete a two-way double to the right center.

Little things …

Washington Relief Kyle Finnegan was apparently trying to get around Harper and seemed to be walking him on four pitches. However, referee Clinton Vondrak called the strike on the fourth court, which was outside the impact zone. Harper was not happy with the call – and he was still not after the game. Finegan’s fifth blow was a blow, and Harper smashed it.

Harp was upset it wasn’t ball four, but I said to myself, “Okay, let him hit,” Thomson said. “JT hits that ball and drawing Harper to the plate was really key.”

Realmuto was initially called up, but Phillies challenged and won.

After Harper tied the game in the eighth, Matt Virling scored his second Homer in the game at the top of the ninth to give Phils a 6-5 lead.

The Phyllis went deep into their goat during the day. Corey Knebel, Juris Familia and Andrew Bellati received important outs in the night cup, and Jose Alvarado was on the verge of closing with a one-run victory in the ninth when Gregorius made a two-out throw that allowed Washington to level the game.

Alvarado finally managed to close it at the bottom in 10th place. He won after Realmuto scored twice at home. Both runs were huge because the Nats scored an undeserved wound to turn it into a one-run game in the 10th.

Hoskins scored the second run of the 10th thanks to another of these little things, in particular third-base coach Dusty Watan’s knowledge of the hurdle rule. Luis Garcia of Washington intervened in the way of Hoskins to third, when the ball of Realmuto passed in the middle. Watan noticed the obstacle, saw the hand of the third baseman, John Bacon, rise, and angrily motioned for Hoskins to return home to make sure the run counted.

“Dusty knows the rule,” Thomson said. “It’s huge. Really smart. ”

“It just shows what a great baseball mind he has,” Harper told Watan.

The Philistines actually go through this game in the spring training. This is rare, but when it happened in this game, everyone was ready.

It would not be difficult to imagine that Phyllis lost a game like this in the first two months of the season, when the attack was inconsistent, the bullpen had occasional breakdowns and the defense was unstable.

Protection and the bullpen are still far from perfect, but things are getting better.

“We find ways to win games we probably shouldn’t do, and that’s what good teams do,” Hoskins said. “I don’t think we’ve ever felt out of the game. This has a lot to do with the way we swing bats, but I also think the guys in battle have been great lately, attacking the zone and throwing a few zeros when we score. ”

The Philly won the first match in three hours and 32 minutes.

They won the second match in three hours and 45 minutes.

“It was a great day for baseball,” Harper said. “Win the series today with two more games to hope you do well and get out of here feeling good.”
