Police give extra powers near Cardiff Park after teenager was stabbed

Police have issued a 48-hour order to disperse a park in central Cardiff after rumors that young people were gathering in response to a stabbed teenager. The dispersal order in Section 35 covers Victoria Park and gives officers additional powers to instruct anyone who causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or disaster to leave the area from 19:00 on Friday, June 17, until 19:00 hours on Sunday, June 19.

This comes after a second teenager was arrested while police continued to investigate the alleged stabbing of a 14-year-old boy from Caerau. A 13-year-old boy from Riverside was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. South Wales police said on Friday that a 16-year-old boy from Canton had subsequently been arrested in connection with the attack. He was released on bail pending further investigation.

Superintendent Michel Conquer said: “We are aware of rumors of further gatherings of young people in the area in the coming days and will increase our presence in the area to reassure locals and help prevent a recurrence of last weekend’s incidents. The decision comes amid concerns about the possibility of a dissemination order in section 35. It applies to people aged 10 and over and will be in effect for 48 hours from 7pm tonight (Friday, June 17). ). “

Employees will also have the power to confiscate any property they suspect is being used to cause anti-social behavior. Superintendent Concour added: “We have introduced the order as a precautionary measure and staff will not hesitate to impose additional powers on them. We urge parents, carers and teachers to talk to young people about the dangers of carrying a knife. ”

Police want to track down anyone who was in the area at the time of the stabbing and may have witnessed the incident or has information or footage of those involved. Anyone with information can contact the South Wales Police via 101 or online here, quoting reference number * 196789.
