An emergency alert says one person is dead and a suspect is at large after a “shooting incident” in Langham, Sask.
The suspect, Justin Heimbecker, is described as six feet three inches tall with brown eyes. He was last seen on foot and is believed to be armed, although police are not sure where he is or if he has access to a vehicle, the release said.
Langham is about 30 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. The incident was first reported at 7:40 a.m. CST Friday. A later update with Heimbecker’s description was issued shortly after 9 a.m. CST.
City Councilman Carol Epp said early Friday that it’s still unclear exactly what’s going on.
“We stay inside, so we haven’t been out. We’ve seen police cars go by, we’ve heard sirens, but that’s it,” Epp said. “There are thousands of things on Facebook, but no one seems to know.”

Residents in the Langham area are being told to seek shelter, lock doors and windows and stay in sheltered areas.
“I looked out my door when I first got the warning, but I didn’t see anybody,” said Mitch DeChambeau, owner of the Three Bean Cafe in Langham. “I think everyone’s already locked in and everything. Obviously we’ve decided not to open the doors, so I’m just waiting to see more information.”
The RCMP is responding and has asked the public not to disclose the location of officers on social media.
The alert says more information will be released as it becomes available.
