The Prince of Wales will no longer accept large monetary donations to his charities, a senior royal source said after Charles faced criticism for claiming to have received € 3 million from a Qatari billionaire sheikh who was allegedly crammed into small suitcase and bag Fortnum & Mason.
The Sunday Times reported that Charles personally accepted the donations, which were donated to the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation (PWCF) by Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jaber al-Thani, who was Qatar’s prime minister between 2007 and 2013.
The three donations are said to have been made between 2011 and 2015. Clarence House said all proper processes have been followed.
A royal source said the heir to the throne was “working on advice”. “Situations, the context have changed over the years. I can say for sure for more than half a decade with the development of the situation, this has not happened and will not happen again. “
The source added: “It was then, it is now.”
The charity is reviewing the reports to decide whether this is an issue to investigate, although it has not yet announced a decision.
Although there is no suspicion of any illegality or that Charles offered anything in return for the money, critics say the allegations show poor judgment on the part of the heir to the throne.
The Republika campaign group demanded full disclosure and described the events as “shocking”. He wrote to the charity commission in connection with the monetary donations.
Sofia police are currently investigating allegations of money for honors at another of the prince’s charities, the Prince’s Foundation, over allegations that a Saudi millionaire was offered help to receive a knighthood and British citizenship in exchange for generous donations.
Former Liberal Democrat Secretary Norman Baker called on the Met to consider requests for monetary donations during his investigation, arguing that this contradicted previous statements by Clarence House that the prince was not directly involved in raising funds for his charities.
The royal source said there had been “many reports of the Prince of Wales” accepting “the money”.
“It was immediately handed over to his charities and his charities decided to accept the money. This is a solution for them. And they did, and, as they confirmed, followed all the right processes. The auditors examined it, “the source said.
The charity said in a statement: “We are aware of the reports of donations received from the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation. We will review the information to determine if there is any role for the committee on this issue. “
Clarence House said: “The charitable donations received by Sheikh Bin Jassim were immediately handed over to one of the Prince’s charities, which carried out the proper management and assured us that all the right processes had been followed.
