Apple released the new M2-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro earlier this year at its WWDC 2022 event. The new notebooks come with many changes and additions to enhance your user experience. While the M2 chip is common in both MacBook models, you need to consider various other factors before deciding which one to take. If you want to buy the latest offers from Apple, there are several aspects you need to consider. Below are some of the reasons why you should wait for the new M2 MacBook Air instead of buying the M2 MacBook Pro.
The M2 MacBook Air is a brand new machine with a brand new design and a lot for it compared to the M2 MacBook Pro
Before we get down to the points, keep in mind that the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are quite capable when it comes to processing power. Apple announced the new M2 chip this year, which provides improved CPU and GPU capabilities. You can check out our reasons why the M2 MacBook Air is a better option than the M2 MacBook Pro.

Design and aesthetics
One of the main reasons you have to wait for the new M2 MacBook Air is the design and form factor. Apple abandoned the wedge design this year and took a balanced approach. The new M2 MacBook Air now looks like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. However, the laptop is quite thin unlike the ‘Pro’ models and is also light. If you’re a student, the MacBook Air is the clear winner when it comes to portability.
Display and slot
While the display quality is more or less similar to the M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the previous one comes with a slot. As mentioned earlier, the slot also contributes to a design that resembles last year’s M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pro. The slot makes room for a larger 13.6-inch display compared to the 13.3-inch display of the M2 MacBook Pro. Despite the larger display, the MacBook Air is smaller than the MacBook Pro. This is because Air has thinner frames on all sides.

MagSafe loading
While the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with the M2 chip were announced side by side, only Air has Apple’s new charging technology. This is one of the most anticipated additions that Apple has returned to the MacBook range. On a MacBook Pro, you’ll use the USB-C port to charge the device.
Function keys
On the new M2 MacBook Pro you will find the Touch Bar instead of the function keys. Although it is an innovative feature, according to Apple, many users still prefer the physical function keys. The new M2 MacBook Air, on the other hand, has function keys that most users prefer.
FaceTime camera
The new MacBook Air has an upgraded 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which gives a great result. The M2 MacBook Pro, on the other hand, offers the same 720p FaceTime HD camera. Since most of us still work from home due to the ongoing global pandemic, calls to Zoom or FaceTime have never been more sought after. From now on, the MacBook Air’s front camera is better than the Pro.
New color options
The new MacBook Air with M2 chip is available in four color options. If you want to get something new, it is always better to get it in a new color and you can get the latest machine in silver, cosmic gray, starlight and midnight. The MacBook Pro is available in the same color options as its predecessor – Space Gray and Silver.
Price
The new MacBook Air has a brand new design, the latest M2 chip and MagSafe addition, and the company valued it at $ 1199. The new M2 MacBook Air has the same old design and doesn’t come with anything special, and Apple valued it at $ 1299. The $ 100 price difference is huge considering the changes introduced this year with the MacBook Air. You can see more details about the M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in our announcement post.
While the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro have the same chip inside, the latter comes with better thermals. The MacBook Air is silent because it doesn’t come with a fan, and Apple has limited the machine’s performance to keep it from heating up. The MacBook Pro with the M2 chip comes with a fan that allows it to offer improved CPU and GPU performance. Eventually, everything narrows down to the type of work you plan to do with the notebooks.
