The historic climb of Rich Strike from the Kentucky Derby to an 80-1 winner from long shots alone was made more amazing by the scene from Saturday’s race.

“When I was in the last 70 yards, I said, ‘I think I won this race,'” said Leon, a Venezuelan native who drove in his first Kentucky derby.
Rich Strike, an alternative before Ethereal Road was scratched on Friday, paid $ 163.60 to win the second biggest upheaval in the race’s 148-year history. Preakness Stakes, the second stage of Triple Crown, will take place on May 21.
