Samsung has announced a new 4K UHD monitor, focused on the creators, which it says provides accurate colors along with high resolution. It also has a matte display, which the company says helps reduce glare.
Samsung positions the monitor as suitable for graphic designers, content creators and general professionals. The ViewFinity S8 has been described as “specialized” for creative professionals, and Samsung promises to reach 98% of the DCI-P3’s color gamut in 4K UHD. In addition to the aforementioned matte display, the monitor also has what Samsung describes as an “ergonomic design” that offers a more comfortable user experience with prolonged use.
This ergonomic design is achieved by a monitor stand that supports multiple heights and angles of adjustment. It not only climbs up and down, but tilts and rotates in degrees that look more than a typical stand can normally hold.
The company says monitors like this usually require a hood to prevent glare and reflections, but the matte material used for the panel eliminates this requirement. The company says this allows users to freely adjust the screen to portrait or landscape orientation. The monitor has also achieved the world’s first UL-based glare-free rating – UL, LLC is a global safety certification company that applies safety, security and resilience standards.
Samsung says the monitor is VESA HDR 600 certified, which allows it to show better contrast through brighter highlights and darker shadows. It also has an adaptive picture that can automatically adjust the brightness and color temperature of the monitor for “optical picture quality” and has an Eye Saver mode, which Samsung says reduces blue light and makes it easier to use the monitor for long periods. The ViewFinity S8 is also described as “flicker-free”, which also contributes to reduced eye strain.
The Viewfinity S8 can be powered by a single USB-C cable that can be connected to a laptop and power up to 90W. Samsung positions it not only as a monitor, but also as a docking station that facilitates up to 10Gbps transfers and also supports Ethernet. In total, the monitor has one Display Port, one HDMI port, one USB-C port and serves as a USB 3.0 hub.
Samsung says the monitor uses newly developed material made from recycled plastic associated with the ocean, which they say reduces marine litter and minimizes its impact on the environment. In addition, Samsung’s Eco Savings Plus technology also reduces the brightness of pixels in areas of the image with black pixels for up to 10% reduction in power consumption.
The Samsung ViewFinity S8 IPS monitor is available in 32-inch or 27-inch versions, and although the price has not been announced specifically for Western markets, DPReview notes that the larger display has been announced for 820,000 won (about $ 635) and 720,000 won. (about $ 560) for the smaller version. The company expects both sizes to be available worldwide by the end of June.
